CLINTON, Mississippi – Mississippi Valley State University runner Scolasticah Kemei broke the tape at the finish line Saturday to lead the Devilettes at the Mississippi College Watson Ford Invitational.
Kemei crossed the finish line with a time of 21 minutes, 48.2 seconds, more than a full minute ahead of the second-place finisher. The win was also her second consecutive individual race victory, as she also won the college women's event at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival on Sept. 15.
The victory by Kemei helped the Devilettes to a fifth-place team finish out of 10 teams competing at Saturday's event. Mississippi Valley State also finished third among the six NCAA Division I teams competing.
Alice Kimutai was MVSU's other Top 20 finisher, as she finished 20th with a time of 25:29.10. The next Devilette over the finish line was Derica Pitters, who finished 33rd (30th qualifier) with a time of 27:03.7.
