Savannah State Men's Cross Country Win At Eagle Invitational

image 2STATESBORO, Georgia -- The Savannah State men's cross country team won at the Eagle Invitational which was hosted by Georgia Southern. The 8k event took place at Seven Mile Farm Course in Statesboro.

Savannah State, who had 15 points, won the event over future Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents Fort Valley State (49) and Paine (56).

SSU's Sahlu Atakalti was the overall winner with a personal best time of 26:21.2.

He was followed by teammates Abbas Abbkar (26:23.8), Terrence Semmons (26:31.8), Suhieb Mohamed (26:37.8) and Cameron Pack (26:44.3) who finished second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.

The Savannah State women were third in their four team meet with 56 points.

Georgia Southern won the 5k meet with 15 points followed by Paine (54), SSU and Fort Valley State (91).

Of the 23 runners, SSU had two to finish in the top ten.

Yamia Cystrunk (22:25.7) was seventh and Jaylen Sewell (23:20.2 ) was 10th.

Rounding out the Savannah State runners were Carlandra Jones (23:21.4), Danielle Chambers (27:16.1) and Autumn Brown (27:16.6). Jones finished 11th, Chambers was 18th and Brown was 19th.

The times posted by Custrunk, Sewell and Jones were all personal best.
