Vaughan runs away with 2nd GCAC weekly award

Xavier University of Louisiana women's cross countryNEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana cross country standout Maliya Vaughan has won her second Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Runner of the Week award this season.
     
Vaughan — a senior from Elk Grove, Calif., and a graduate of West Campus High School — is the recipient for Oct. 8-14 after running 5,000 meters in 21 minutes, 27.22 seconds at the Mississippi College Invitational at Clinton, Miss. She placed 52nd out of 143 women and finished ahead of 32 NCAA Division I runners. Vaughan led the Gold Nuggets to 14th place out of 20 schools.
     

Vaughan is a three-time GCAC weekly winner in her career.
     

XULA will return to Clinton for the GCAC Championships Friday. The women's 5K will start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 9:10. Choctaw Trails Course is the venue. Vaughan is the defending GCAC women's individual champion and led the Gold Nuggets in 2017 to their 11th consecutive GCAC team title.
