NEW ORLEANS — It will be an all-Xavier University of Louisiana women's doubles final in the XULA Invitational, with Farah Baklouti and Mariia Borodii meeting Yi Chen Pao and Charene Goreau on Sunday.
Competition will begin at 11 a.m. at XULA Tennis Center. Borodii and Baklouti also will meet in a singles semifinal, and Goreau will play LSU-Alexandria's Patricia Martinez in the singles consolation final.
Baklouti and Borodii defeated LSUA's Martinez and Patricia Perez 6-0 in the quarterfinals and LSUA's Katheryne Campo and Niahm Packer 6-4 in the semifinals. Pao and Goreau advanced with a 6-0 victory against Catherine Jordan and Adriana Munoz of city rival Loyols, followed by a 6-1 decision against LSUA's Kirsty Venter and Miljana Melojevic.
Borodii, top seeded in singles, defeated Packer 8-5 in the round of 16 and Melojevic 8-3 in the quarterfinals. Baklouti won in a walkover in the round of 16, then upset Loyola's fourth-seeded Chandler Harmon 8-6.
Results
"We got off to a rough start in singles," XULA coach Alan Green said, "but overall it ended well because we have Mariia and Farah in the semis. Doubles today was outstanding. We played some good doubles."
LSUA teammates Perez and Venter will meet in the other singles semifinal. Venter is seeded third.
