Mountain East - CIAA Challenge: WVSU's Carson Explodes for 40, Jackets Defeat JC Smith Golden Bulls

INSTITUTE, West Virginia (11/9/13) -- Freshman guard Lexy Carson scored 26 of her game high 40 points in the second half to lead the WVSU women's basketball team to a come-from-behind 79-74 win over visiting Johnson C. Smith Saturday on the second day of the MEC-CIAA Challenge.

Brock added 10 points and Janelle Williams pulled down 11 rebounds as the Yellow Jackets hit 62% from the floor after the break to overcome a 39-32 halftime deficit.
Trailing 49-38 with 15:52 to play the Yellow Jackets took off on a 17-5 run to pull ahead 55-54 with 9:34 remaining.

The teams battled on even ground until the Golden Bulls were foced to foul in the closing seconds and first Carson and then Brock stepped to the foul line and hit two free throws to seal the victory.
WVSU won the battle on the boards by a 37-23 margin.

Carson also finished with four rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Charleston defeated Chowan 71-61 in the second game.
