Southern holds Division-II foe to two first downs
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- Southern’s 19 seniors had a memorable farewell Saturday night in A.W. Mumford Stadium.
The university honored them in a ceremony shortly before kickoff of their final home game against Clark Atlanta, and shortly thereafter several of the seniors took center stage to get the Jaguars rolling toward a 53-0 victory.
On the second play from scrimmage, Johnathan Mack made a leaping interception of Aaron Hayward’s floating pass in the left flat and sprinted 24 yards for a touchdown.
On Southern’s first possession, Dray Joseph and Lee Doss linked up for a 44-yard touchdown.
On the next play from scrimmage, linebacker Anthony Balancier sacked Hayward to set the stage for a second consecutive three-and-out for the defense.
On the Jaguars’ next possession, Joseph became his school’s record-holder for career passing yards when he connected with Doss for a 6-yard gain on another touchdown drive.
