HOUSTON, Texas -- Guards Tre Lynch, Trelun Banks and Adrian Rodgers combined to score 44 points as third-seeded Southern defeated sixth-seeded Alabama A&M 64-60 in the quarterfinals of the Southwesten Athletic Conference tournament Thursday afternoon in the Toyota Center.
Lynch came off the bench to score a game-high 16 points, making 6-of-9 field goals and Banks and Rodgers scored 14 each.
The Jaguars (17-16) will play second-seeded Alabama State, which defeated Mississippi Valley State 93-81 on Wednesday, in a semifinal game at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
Southern trailed 29-27 at halltime but outscored the Bulldogs (9-20) 13-2 to start the secondl half. A&M got within three with a minute left, but Lynch’s jumper from the lane and four free throws by Rodgers completed the Jaguars third victory against the Bulldogs this season.
