HOUSTON, Texas -- Although the Texas Southern women’s team will not have a chance to compete in the women’s NCAA Tournament with its withdrawal from the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament this week, the Tigers still have postseason hopes through the Women’s National Invitation Tournament, which will announce its 64-team field on Sunday night.
Each conference receives an automatic berth in the WNIT, and TSU, as the regular-season SWAC champion, would be the conference’s most likely candidate.
A WNIT spokesman said the tournament will consult with the SWAC and Texas Southern on a potential tournament invitation.
