RALEIGH, North Carolina — Winston-Salem State didn’t need a bag of tricks to beat St. Augustine’s 36-19 on Saturday afternoon at the George Williams Athletic Complex.
All the Rams needed was the power running of senior Tyree Massey. All Massey did was go over and through the Falcons’ defense for a career-best 164 yards on 20 carries and he scored two touchdowns. It was his second straight 100-yard game.
It wasn’t a beauty contest between two struggling CIAA programs by any means. But Massey’s running was pretty enough to help the Rams win their second straight.
“I just felt fresh today and I told (quarterback Rod Tinsley) earlier this week that I wanted to get 300 yards rushing in this game,” said Massey, who has been nursing a slight ankle injury he suffered Sept. 26 against Elizabeth City State. “I went light in practice last week trying to rehab it, but I just felt good going into this game.”
