Former Edward Waters Tiger Becomes Viral Sensation
JONESBORO, Georgia -- It has been a whirlwind past few days for Darrian Carmicheal since an article was published in the September 10th edition of USA Today.
Carmicheal, who is the offensive line coach at Jonesboro High School in Clayton County, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta, has come up with a creative and unique way to reward his offensive linemen for their on-field success.
You've heard of Miami's Turnover Chain, the N. W. O. (Nasty Wide Outs) championship belt at Ole Miss, and the "Savage" shoulder pads at Georgia. Well, Carmicheal's reward system maybe the most innovative, yet delicious of them all.
Whenever his offensive linemen get a "pancake block", which is a term used to describe a block that leaves a defensive lineman on their back, Carmicheal will pour a shot of pancake syrup in the mouths of his O-Linemen.
News of Carmicheal's exploits have been spread throughout the country on several sports media outlets including ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and SB Nation to name a few and has he has earned a new nickname, "Coach Syrup".
When asked about how it feels to be an overnight viral sensation, Carmicheal replied, "It feels great. I never thought it would happen to me. It's crazy how you can wake up one day and see your face on TV and hear your name everywhere."
Carmicheal is a former football student-athlete and four-year starter at Edward Waters as an offensive lineman, a 2015 graduate of EWC with a degree in Education, and is a proud member of the Chi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. Also upon his graduation from Edward Waters, Carmicheal was also selected as a member of the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society as being a key contributor to his team as a starter and achieving over a 3.2 grade point average during his senior season.
