Southern's Danny Johnson Makes Final Washington Reskins Roster



BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- Danny Johnson has gone from an undrafted prospect, to making the Washington Redskins 53-man roster, come Sunday, the All-SWAC performer can be the first Jaguar to play in the NFL since Rashaun Allen played for the Seattle Seahawks in 2014

Head coach Jay Gruden told The Washington Post the team had targeted Johnson since the Senior Bowl.

“Danny is awesome,” Gruden told the Post. “If you are a college free agent and you make an NFL team, its quite a dang accomplishment. I’m happy for Danny. He’s done everything right. He’s competed. . . . He can run. He can do special teams.”

Johnson was a highlight reel last season, in his final season he recorded his first career rushing, receiving, passing and a punt return for a touchdown; add two interceptions returned for a touchdown. His six touchdown was second to QB Austin Howard 18 passing touchdowns.

His junior campaign (2016-17) he lead the nation in total interception (7) and interception per game (.6).
