NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Jordan Ashmore is the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Runner of the Week in men's cross country for Oct. 1-7.
Ashmore, from Cedar Hill, Texas, and a graduate of Cedar Hill High School, placed 42nd out of 74 runners Saturday in the Watson Ford Invitational at Clinton, Miss. His time for 8,000 meters was 29 minutes, 51.86 seconds. He finished ahead of seven runners from NCAA Division I and led the Gold Rush to ninth place in team scoring.
This is the first time that two Gold Rush freshmen won Runner of the Week awards in the same season. Francis Patterson was honored for Sept. 10-16.
XULA will return to Clinton and Choctaw Trails Course for the Mississippi College Invitational Saturday. The men's 8K will start at 8 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at 9. It will be XULA's fourth meet of the season.
