Formilan receives her 2nd GCAC defensive award
NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Beatrice Formilan has won her second Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Defender of the Week volleyball award this season.
Formilan, a freshman libero from Santorso, Italy, earned the honor for Oct. 1-7 after producing a match-high 13 digs in the Gold Nuggets' GCAC victory at Talladega. It was the 15th time this season that Formilan reached double-figure digs.
Formilan was flawless in 11 receptions of serve and produced four assists and an ace. She helped the Gold Nuggets set a school record for fewest points allowed in a third set — four. XULA won 25-10, 25-14, 25-4.
XULA (16-4, 7-0) will visit GCAC and city rival SUNO (2-11, 2-6) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at The Castle on SUNO's campus. It's a makeup of a Saturday match.
