The Panthers, who opened the season August 25 at Rice, played six games in six weeks in six different cities in going 3-3 overall, including a 2-0 mark in SWAC play. The bye week came at a great time for Panther Football. Southern, also coming off a bye week, is 2-3, 1-1.
"The open week helped us out because we had a chance to get some guys back," Dooley said. "We had some guys battling some minor injuries, so those guys got back healthy. We also had the opportunity to work on some of the mistakes we had in those previous games. I thought it gave us a great opportunity. This week, we had to prepare for what we know will be a challenging game."
For the first time as PVAMU head football coach, Dooley will lead his team on the field in a regular season game.
"I'm excited," Dooley said. "I'm excited for the players. I'm excited for our fans to get a chance to finally rest (from the road) and come see a show that we will display on Saturday."
