Pough To Be Featured n 2019 South Carolina African-American History Calendar

pough2ORANGEBURG, South Carolina – South Carolina State head football coach Oliver "Buddy" Pough will be one of twelve (12) persons featured in the 2019 South Carolina Department of Education African-American History Calendar sponsored by AT&T.

The calendar will be unveiled at a formal ceremony Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, at the Koger Center in Columbia, SC, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The calendar annually honors twelve individuals who have made significant contributions to South Carolina and their professions, and serve as role models to the students and citizens of the Palmetto state.

Also among the honorees are Columbia mayor Steve Benjamin, retired lawmaker Isaac Washington of Charleston, and late Rock Hill lawmaker Bessie Moody-Lawrence.

The first calendar was produced thirty (30) years ago by BellSouth Telecommunications (now AT&T) to fill a gap in our state's history curriculum, according to a Department of Education spokesperson.

Pough, an Orangeburg native and SC State graduate, is in his 17th season as Bulldog head coach. He has compiled a 121-68 record ( 95-34 MEAC), while his teams have won or shared six Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championships and made four Football Subdivision Championship (FCS) playoff appearances.

He and his wife, Josie, are the parents of two sons and two granddaughters.
