MONTGOMERY, Alabama - A week later, Alabama State coach Reggie Barlow still has no answers.
All the preparation, all the preseason conditioning, did little to help the Hornets as they wilted in the Florida heat in the second half of last week’s 38-28 loss to Bethune-Cookman in the MEAC-SWAC Challenge at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
“At one point, I think we had eight starters on defense that were cramped up and coming out for a play or two plays or a series,” he said. “I usually handle the conditioning and running during practice and I felt like our approach — making sure we were in the element (with afternoon practices) — was to make sure we simulated (the game atmosphere) as much as possible.”
