DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - The dominant story line in college football this season has been “cupcake wars,'' which are usually not wars at all but unadulterated thrashings.It's normal procedure for major college teams to start out with cupcake opponents — college's version of preseason football. They buy a home game, and all the economic benefits it brings, by paying a team from a lower-level conference or division to travel.

Economically, both schools benefit. But the result on the field is often ugly. However, Oklahoma State's 84-0 drubbing of Savannah State in Week 1 brought the ugliness to a new level.
Savannah State followed that beating with a 55-0 weather-shortened loss at Florida State last Saturday. On the same day, another Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference team, Florida A&M, received a healthy paycheck and a 69-13 whipping from Oklahoma.
