B-CU basketball team using extra practice time to come together

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- Bethune-Cookman started basketball practice earlier than many schools, and the extra time is much-needed.

The Wildcats return just two players who saw playing time last season in a pair of seniors, 5-foot-9 point guard Ricky Johnson and 6-4 shooting guard Denzel Dulin.

But with 10 practices already under their belts, the Wildcats are starting to mesh together, according to coach Gravelle Craig.

“It’s really good to just get familiar with each other and to try to learn the offenses and defenses we are incorporating,” said Craig, who begins his fourth season at the Wildcats’ helm.

“It’s always good to initiate that.”

The Wildcats do have experience, however, with three junior college transfers and two players that came from other schools.
