HAMPTON,Virginia — After a breakout senior year for Denbigh, Darius Banks came to Hampton University as a wide receiver. But after seeing limited time as a freshman, Banks came to a realization: He wanted to be on the other side of the ball.

Specifically, he hoped to play cornerback. He was eager to be on that island, where you're either a playmaker or a bum.53

"In high school, that's where I started off," said Banks, who has started all six games this season at corner. "I probably didn't start playing wide receiver until the last two games of my junior year of high school.

"I felt like I could bring my aggressive style to the defensive side of the ball. Instead of getting the ball, I like being in the moment when it comes down to you and the wide receiver. And you've just got to lock him down."
