Culver Column: Wood says Rattlers are determined to get homecoming win

TALLAHASSEE, Florida -- For the first time all season, Florida A&M head coach Alex Wood called a game a “must win.”

The Rattlers (0-6, 0-3 MEAC) take on Delaware State (0-5, 0-2) in Bragg Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Both teams are looking for a win. Both teams are working with first-year head coaches. Both teams are trying to capture the magic of years past.

FAMU hasn’t had a winning season since 2011 and hasn’t won a MEAC title since claiming a share of the crown in 2010. Delaware State hasn’t finished a season over .500 since stomping undefeated through the MEAC in 2007.

The biggest difference between the two teams, in terms of Saturday’s game, is Florida A&M is playing its homecoming game.

That’s a critical point. Wednesday, in front of 48 members of the 220 Quarterback Club, a group of FAMU enthusiasts, Wood said he wants to give FAMU fans something to cheer for when they come back for homecoming.
