Moore leads Virginia State past WSSU

ETTRICK, Virginia — It was good for the Trojans to be home.

Virginia State, playing its first home game since Nov. 25, defeated Winston-Salem State 84-75 on Thursday at Daniel Gym.

Elijah Moore scored a game-high 21 points, Waymond Wright added 17, and the Trojans, playing their first game in 2016, moved to 4-0 in CIAA play.

“I knew it would be a tough game. They’re talented. They’ve got a really good team,” said Virginia State coach Lonnie Blow. “I knew it would be tough.”

Terrell Leach led the Rams with 18 points. Carlos Rankins chipped in 15.

The Trojans hit a trio of 3-pointers, two from Melvin Gregory, before the Rams got on the scoreboard in the first half.
