WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina -- From start to finish Thursday, 11 CIAA football coaches stepped onto a small stage at Winston-Salem State and quoted from nearly identical scripts — list goals for the coming season and, at some point, kiss the host’s ring.
And why not? WSSU has earned any respect being thrown its way.
Since Connell Maynor took over as coach in 2010, the Rams are 35-4 overall, 21-2 against CIAA opponents and have won the last two league titles.
The 2012 team — one of the best in HBCU history — had a conference-best 14-1 record.
