JACKSON, Mississippi -- Leadoff hitter Aneko Knowles scored three runs while going 2-for-4 and stealing a base and Bryce Taylor was 3-for-4 with two RBIs as Jackson State toppled Southern 6-2 Tuesday night at Robert Braddy Field.
Knowles drew a leadoff walk and stole second base, eventually scoring on a bases-loaded walk issued by Ryan Flynn (0-1), to spark a two-run first inning as Jackson State (4-1) was in control the entire game.
Southern (2-2), which struck out nine times and had just four hits, was nearly shut out. Freshman Sergio Torres, in his first at-bat of the season, hit a two-out, two-RBI single in the top of the ninth to provide the Jaguars’ only scoring.
