GRAMBLING, Louisiana -- Herman Arvie, a former Grambling and NFL offensive lineman, said he couldn’t believe his ears when he heard that his alma mater laid off offensive line coach Ben Wilkerson on June 27.
Arvie, who played with the Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens from 1993-96 as an offensive tackle, said he was relieved to hear the offensive line coach was reinstated Tuesday because of that position’s importance.
“As an offensive lineman, you’ve got to be in sync with the running backs, the quarterback and even the wide receivers,” Arvie said. “You’ve got to know what they’re doing, depending on whether the quarterback is taking a three-step drop or a seven-step drop.
