Vashti Thomas (United States) won in a new World University Games record of 12.61 seconds, cutting one-hundredth of a second off Lucyana Longer (Poland) 12.62 seconds. Alina Talay (Bulgaria) was second in 12.78 seconds.
Host Russia continue to lead the track and field athletics medals section with 32 (15 gold, 11 silver, six bronze); and South Africa is in second place with six (three gold, one silver, two bronze). USA moved into third with three gold medals, while Jamaica moved up to 11th with one silver and three bronze medals.
Williams will have a few weeks to rest and recover before beginning her preparation for the incoming collegiate indoor track and field season.
