EMPORIA, Virginia -- Recent Greensville County High School graduate Alphonso Sylvester Boone, on Tuesday morning, made it official. He signed a letter of intent to attend Shaw University in the fall.
The offer and the commitment bring a substantial athletic scholarship.
“I like the academic standards of Shaw,” said Boone, previous to signing the dotted line. “And, they have a deep history in the CIAA Conference. I expect to see some pretty stiff competition. The CIAA is a pretty tough conference.
” Boone goes to Shaw as “an excellent student-athlete,” according to GCHS Track and Field Coach Leslie Young.
