Cold first-half shooting put Albany State into an early deficit. The Lady Rams were only 10-29 (34.5%) from the field in the first stanza. Claflin led 33-19 with 1:07 left before halftime. A three-pointer by Alexander and a jumper by Ieshia Young during the remaining time closed the gap to 33-24 at intermission.
In the second half, Lady Rams slowly chipped away at the Lady Panthers lead. A Keidra Green trey with 6:26 left in the game brought Albany State within one, 49-48. Claflin expanded its advantage to 51-48, only to see Amber McKenzie make two free throws to make the score 51-50 at the 5:13 mark.
With 4:19 left in regulation, Green gave ASU a 52-51 lead, its first of the game. However, the Lady Rams went cold once again. Claflin ended the game on a 14-3 run to close the contest.
Green scored 14 points from Albany State. Artisha Holston pulled down a game-high 13 points to go along with eight points. Mecca Frost recorded six assists.
The Lady Rams shot 22-65 (33.8%) from the field, 7-26 (26.8%) from three-point range and 6-10 (60%) from the free throw line. They outrebounded Claflin 40-36 and forced 23 turnovers.
Albany State returns to action on Monday, February 17th when they face Clark Atlanta University for the program's annual Breast Cancer Awareness "Think Pink" Game. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
