Shaw Announces Its 2014 Football Schedule
RALEIGH, North Carolina -- Shaw University announced its 2014 football schedule Wednesday. The slate features six away and four home games.
"This is a challenging schedule, but one that will be a good test for our team," said head coach Robert Massey. "The nonconference schedule is one of the toughest we've had, but we'll need that to make sure we're ready for the CIAA season."
The Bears open with three straight games on the road, sending them as far north as Loretto, PA, to face Division I St. Francis on September 6, then as far south as Fairfield, AL, to take on perennial powerhouse Miles the next week.
The Cape Fear Classic will again feature a matchup between Shaw and UNC Pembroke in Wilmington, NC, on September 20.
Shaw opens CIAA play with a home contest against Lincoln (PA) the next week. The schedule also features key division matchups against Fayetteville State and Winston-Salem State, both at home. The Bears will also travel to Livingstone.
Shaw Homecoming celebrations will culminate in a game against Johnson C. Smith on October 25. The Bears close out the season at cross-town rival Saint Augustine's.
Last season, the Bears went 6-4, 4-3 in the CIAA.
