NACHITOCHES, La. - After enduring a week of adverse weather conditions and a last-minute change in venue due to on-going construction at its home stadium, the Grambling State Tiger baseball team hit the diamond for its season opener at Southland foe Northwestern State on Saturday. Despite the obstacles, GSU made history with a doubleheader split versus the Demons.
In game one, GSU struck first in the opening frame but surrendered eight unanswered runs to the Demons as Northwestern State captured an 11-5 win in the opener.
Grambling State shook off the game one loss and overcame a two-run deficit with five runs over the final three innings to record a 6-3 victory. The win marked the first time since 1991 that GSU defeated Northwestern State.
