Junior guard Jessie Burton tossed in 12 of his 13 points in the second half as S.C. State (7-14, 3-4 MEAC ) sparked a 24-3 run to pull out a close 51-48 conference win over Bethune-Cookman (8-13, 3-5 MEAC) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center Saturday. Freshman guard Carrio Bennett added 9 points, including two big 3-pointers in the closing minutes of the second-half in the win.
Bethune-Cookman senior guard Dewayne Pettus poured in 12 points in the loss.
