HOUSTON, Texas -- Now that it has lost a Southwestern Athletic Conference game, Southern knows another setback could knock it completely out of the West division title race.
“We know we have to come together more as a team and win out from here,” cornerback Danny Johnson said.
The Jaguars, 3-3 and 3-1 in the SWAC after a 47-42 loss to Prairie View last Saturday, has five games remaining, beginning with their matchup against Texas Southern, 3-3 and 2-3, at 2 p.m. Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston.
Southern has responded mostly well to defeats during coach Dawson Odums’ tenure. The Jaguars have won eight of their previous nine games following a defeat, including two this season. They bounced back from a 62-15 loss to Louisiana Tech in the season opener to beat Mississippi Valley State 50-13. And after losing to Georgia 48-6 on Sept. 26, Southern returned from an open date to beat Alabama State 45-34.
