MEAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships Set For Oct. 31


NORFOLK, Virginia – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host the 2015 Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 31 at the Delaware State University (DSU) Outreach and Research Center in Smyrna, Del.

The championships will begin with the women's five-kilometer (5K) race at 9:45 a.m., followed by the men's eight-kilometer (8K) race at 10:30 a.m. For complete men's and women's cross country championship information, visit Championship Central at www.MEACSports.com

On the women's side, Florida A&M looks to secure its fourth consecutive title. The Lady Rattlers, who won the Bobby Lang Invitational and finished second at the Florida State Invitational, has eight runners inside the top 10 in conference times this season. Cynthia Chelelgo holds the top time in the MEAC on a 5K course this season with a time of 17:07.50 at the Bobby Lang Invitational.

The defending MEAC men's champion Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks come into the meet seeking their second straight title. The Hawks' won three meets this season, including the UMES Lid Lifter Invitational, Hornet Invitational, and DSU Farm Run Invitational. UMES' Khalil Rmidi Kinini earned the top time this season, on an 8k course, with a mark of 24:09.20 at the Princeton Invitational.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, MEAC student-athletes will wear pink racing bibs and head coaches will wear pink ribbon pins during the championship. Also, the MEAC encourages fans to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

On Friday, Oct. 30, the MEAC will team up with Delaware State University to host the Power of the PINK 5K Run/Walk on the DSU campus. Registration for the event starts at 2:30 p.m. at the DSU Wellness and Recreation Center, with the run/walk to begin at 4 p.m.

The 2015 MEAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships are free and open to the public.

The Delaware State University Outreach and Research Center is located at 884 Smyrna-Leipsic Road in Smyrna, Delaware.
