WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina -- Searching for an identity halfway through the season isn’t what coach Kienus Boulware of Winston-Salem State had in mind.
But that’s where the Rams are after five games and a disappointing 1-4 record.
After Saturday’s 27-24 home loss to Chowan at dreary Bowman Gray Stadium, the Rams have no idea who they are. Sitting 1-1 in the CIAA, they will try to shake off their first conference regular-season loss in more than five seasons.
With this year’s edition of the Rams, they always seem to be close to turning things around. This week will be no different.
Two weeks ago, in a 17-10 win over Elizabeth City State, the defense came up big, but then on Saturday it allowed nearly 200 rushing yards to the Hawks. It’s been a long time since a WSSU defense gave up that many rushing yards.
