TYLER, Texas —Texas College blocked an extra point in third quarter and then held on to beat Bacone College 21-20 on Saturday, snapping a 22-game losing streak and dropping the Warriors to 1-6, 1-1 in Central States Football League play.
The Steers (1-5, 1-2) jumped out to a 21-0 and blocked two PATs to hold on for the victory. The last win by the Steers was on Sept. 13, 2013, a 36-29 victory over Wayland Baptist in Plainview.
Texas College got on the board in the first quarter as Robert Woodard found the end zone on an 8-yard dash. Orlando Marroquin’s PAT put the Steers ahead 7-0 with 5:35 showing.
In the second quarter, Woodard hit Cortez Griffin on consecutive TD passes of 7 (10:37) and 26 (6:10). Marroquin made both extra points and the Steers were rolling 21-0.
The Warriors got on the board with a minute left in the first half as Deandre Hood caught an 8-yard pass from Trey Seward. The Steers blocked the PAT and went into halftime ahead 21-6.
