BALTIMORE, Maryland -- Morgan State leads the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in a category the team would rather not be a part of.The Bears (3-3 overall, 3-1 in the league) have lost nine fumbles this fall. That number puts the program in a tie with South Carolina State for the most fumbles lost this season in the MEAC.
For second-year coach Lee Hull who watched last year’s squad cough up the ball 10 times in the entire campaign, the rate at which the current team is failing to protect the ball is alarming.
“It’s a big concern,” Hull said Tuesday. “We do ball-security drills every day, and that’s a big emphasis for us. It’s very concerning right now, and basically, it’s a lack of focus, and we’ve got to get that fixed right away.”
Senior quarterback Moses Skillon leads Morgan State with four lost fumbles, but an inability to hold the ball has been a team-wide issue. The team is projected to lose 15 fumbles, which would be its most in a season since the 2008 squad coughed the ball up 17 times.
