Grambling in SWAC driver's seat after Alcorn win

GRAMBLING, Louisiana -- As emotional as Broderick Fobbs was after Saturday's win over Alcorn State, Grambling's second-year coach isn't quite yet ready to call it a statement win for his program.

He will, however, take note of where it leaves the Tigers in the Southwestern Athletic Conference race.

Not only does Grambling stand alone as the top team in the SWAC, the Tigers are in position to make the SWAC title game in Houston with just four games to play.

"It puts us in a situation where we pretty much in the driver’s seat," Fobbs said Monday. "It’s up to us to make sure we continue to play the way we’re capable of playing."

Grambling (5-2, 5-0) has remaining games against Mississippi Valley State, Texas Southern, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Southern left on the schedule with a one-game lead over its rival Southern. Four wins gives Grambling a chance to win its first title since 2011.
