The Game: This one is big. STATS dubbed the Aggies/Wildcats contest the National FCS Game of the Week. BOXTOROW also named it their game of the week. It is an indication of just how far the Aggies program has come. The last time the two teams played, a 2012 28-12 win by the Wildcats, the Aggies program was not regarded as elite program in the MEAC. Bethune-Cookman was and still is. Therefore, for the press to see an A&T/Bethune-Cookman contest as having national implications is a testament to how far the Aggies have come. Taking the Wildcats from their perch atop the MEAC will be difficult. The Wildcats have won 8 of 9 from N.C. A&T and is coming off a nine-day layoff after beating powerful S.C. State 17-14 last Thursday.

News & Notes

A&T head coach Rod Broadway won his 100th career game last week in the win over Norfolk State. He became the 26th active FCS coach to win 100 games and he and S.C. State’s Buddy Pough are the only two active MEAC coaches with 100 wins.

Tarik Cohen moved closer to the Aggies all-time rushing record. He needs 503 yards to pass Mike Mayhew as the school’s leading rusher. He joins Mayhew as the only two players in school history with more than 3,000 career rushing yards. He needs more than 1,600 yards to break the conference record.

The Aggies offensive line currently features one true freshman, one redshirt freshman and three redshirt freshman. The average size of the Aggies O-line’s top six players is 6-foot-5, 305 pounds.
Cohen, the reigning MEAC Player of the Week, threw his second career touchdown pass last week when he connected with Denzel Keyes for a 6-yard score. Cohen’s other career touchdown pass also went to Keyes, a 2-yard score at Elon last season.

Coaches’ Point of View

“They’re real good. They are a salty bunch. Their defensive coaches do a good job of making sure they’re in the right places at the right times. As with any defense, if you do a good job of attacking and playing hard you have a chance and that’s exactly what they do. They run around, swarm the football make sure they’re capitalizing on any opportunities the offense gives them."

Bethune-Cookman head coach Terry Mills on A&T’s defense

“I’m anxious to play them. I’m looking forward to seeing how we matchup with Bethune. Bethune has been at the top of this league for a long time. They are just as good as they have ever been athletically. They can run, they’re fast at all their skill positions and they’re good upfront."
