UAPB Homecoming predicted as big economic boost for Pine Bluff

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas -- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will celebrate Homecoming beginning Sunday, Nov. 8, and continuing through Saturday, Nov. 14, which is expected to generate about $1 million for the local economy, according to Bob Purvis, the director of the Pine Bluff Convention Center.

“By Wednesday, every hotel and motel room in Pine Bluff will be filled and so will a lot of rooms in Little Rock and other places,” Purvis said. “There are about 1,000 rooms in Pine Bluff, and those will be rented for premium prices, $100 a day or more for two or three days.”

Based on previous years, Purvis said there will be about 3,000 extra people in town for the festivities, and each will spend about $100 per day.

“One hundred dollars a day for three days and we’re knocking on the door of a million dollars,” Purvis said.

Although the events begin Sunday, Nov. 8, university spokeswoman Tisha Arnold said most of the alumni begin arriving on Wednesday, and nearly all of them will be in town by Friday.
